Going to BBQ restaurants in Texas is great. If only for the leftovers that you'll almost always need to take home.

One of my favorite sandwiches to make with said leftovers is a Grilled Cheese and in this case - with Kreuz Brisket.

It took us long enough (three years) but we finally made our way to Lockhart for our first BBQ pilgrimage to the Barbeque Capital of Texas. ⁣

It was a meal I was looking forward to the most this week as I'm allowed a cheat meal. I was a few hours removed from a two hour workout so I was FOCUSED and LOCKED in on these meats and I couldn't pick a more satisfying meal to cap this week.⁣

After lifting, I thought I'd do some Yoke Walks and test myself. ⁣

.... although moving slowly, I was at 90% of my maximum heart rate throughout. Throw in a few more additional rounds of these and I'm toast. ⁣
⁣
In addition to the conditioning benefits, I like doing these to work on strength, strength endurance, core stability and explosive power....and this works pretty much every muscle. ⁣

Since the pandemic, I've experienced a variety of aches and pains. (Knees, ankles, wrist, and elbow) Some recurring, some new. ⁣⁣

The newest ailment I've dealt with is lower back pain which made something as simple as sitting up from a chair a painful experience.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I've been mostly sedentary, gained more weight, and I'm sitting all day. Couple that with the resulting muscular imbalances that caused me to overcompensate and altogether, I've seemingly brought on a world of hurt.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
having said all that, since I've resumed training again, I've found great value in using the reverse hyper machine at light loads, higher volume, and usually as a finisher to a leg work out. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This has been great for reducing lower back tightness and in strengthening hamstrings, glutes, and hips -which for me, is tough to target directly with other exercises. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
From a performance standpoint, Glute and hamstring muscle hypertrophy is key for strength, power, and fitness athletes for movements like squats, deadlifts, pulls, running, and nearly every other human movement. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As such, Strong, muscular, and flexible hamstrings are key to maximal force production and injury prevention during such explosive and higher force producing movements.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Biggest Takeaway for me is injury prevention and returning to form with the big lifts. ⁣⁣

Try reverse hypers with or without machines

this sucks too but I prefer shorter bursts of high intensity intervals interspersed with short rest periods to improve my cardiovascular capacity and it's better for my goals. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
actually, this doesn't suck. It was actually fun but whether it sucks or it doesn't - the satisfaction of completing a bout with HIIT and/or tabata makes it all worth it. ⁣⁣
